We all strive for healthy living. Can we be well if our minds are undated with thoughts of “What If” of tomorrow or that remorse of the past? Pause, think for a second.
Yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not arrived yet. Except for imaginary science fiction, there exists no time machine that can take you back to yesterday. Similarly, there is no incredible mirror that can show you a glimpse of the next day.
All that exists is today, this very moment. You can control only the Now, the Very Moment – the rest are like a mirage in a desert.
Realizing this is the first step of healthy living. Because healthy living starts with your thoughts- the way you perceive life.
What if, tomorrow never comes? Think of it, what will happen if a massive comet hits the Earth from nowhere and destroys this whole ecosystem in a fraction of a second? Then none of us will probably exist to enjoy the sunshine the next morning or that sunset that we ignore every day.
Then why waste it ruminating on that poor decision of the past or that elusive thought of the future? Think for a moment..
Looking at the past is like looking at an empty rail line when the train has long left
I have been in your shoes, and I completely get it. I remember thinking of my professional stress while I was vacationing with my family in the picturesque hills of the countryside. As I write this piece, I regret that I haven’t enjoyed the trip.
You see, I am still held up on my past. That is why I am writing about it, so that you may ponder it and have a life worth living.
The truth is that the past and the future both are spider cobwebs. The moment you get into it, you are not only trapped in it but you are entangled before you know it.
Can you fix the past?
You cannot fix the past or any of your past mistakes. If your hands freeze at the thought of dating a cute girl you just met, because you had not-so-good relationships before, think twice. Is there any point in not dating the cute girl you met in the bar just because you have had a bad breakup?
That will be a lost opportunity. You can spend days together regretting your mistake, or you can move on right now and promise yourself that you won’t repeat it.
The fact is each moment becomes a matter of past within a few seconds. The “Now”, and the “Present” are fleeting in nature. Grab the moment, and enjoy it to the fullest before it becomes a past.
Also, Looking at the future is like looking at an empty rail line when the train hasn’t yet arrived
I know you will stop me here and say “Of course, I need to plan for the future.” Yes, We should. However, the trick is to balance. You should always plan for the future but should not inundate yourself with compulsive thoughts of “What if?”
Never, ever let your future take control of the “Now” from you.
Now assume that you put all your effort today for a better tomorrow. Can it ensure everything will go as planned? Actually not. There will still be an ‘n’ number of factors that affect your future, even if you are earning well. Your health may not be at its optimum to enjoy the luxury, or you may not have mental peace. Look I am not being pessimistic here, I am just trying to point out the fact that we cannot predict our future even with the best of our efforts.
Perhaps, to help you explain a little better, I will take the help ofShrimad Bhagavad Geeta – a religious book of the Hindus. It is said that you must perform your duties but never expect the result. With the expectation of the results, comes the thoughts of the future. It is better to keep performing our job as our duty and leave the rest to God.
“You have the right to work, but for the work’s sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. The desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive for working. Never give way to laziness, either.” — Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta

Just do your job and Let the future take its course. Why try to predict it, when God himself doesn’t want us to?
Instead, if we concentrate on the today, The Now, we can have a far better life. We can think of solving the current problems rather than daydreaming about the future.
Acknowledge the mistakes of the past, be in the current moment, and enjoy your life. This is a small trick to healthy living.
Life is short- It is not worth contemplating on the single bad decision of your life or predicting the future your entire life.
Are you still held up in the past or lost in the future?
